Enhanced Contingency Analysis—A Power System Operator Tool

Contingency analysis (CA) is a well-known function in power system planning and operation. In accordance with CA results, the operator dispenses information regarding static security of (overloads and/or voltage outside tolerable limits). However, classic remedial action schemes cannot distinguish safe operating regimes from potentially dangerous ones terms (in)stability. fact, instability considered as one major threats leading to insecurity. Therefore, this study an enhanced contingency (ECA) presented where classical extended based on modal analysis. The article presents dedicated methodology for proposed ECA tool, special emphasis corrective measures provided by operator, intended enhancing (regulation transformer action, distributed generation energy storage). Also influence load model was analyzed simulation main conclusions are presented. demonstrated advantages that resources storage can provide context stability. Also, simulations acknowledged importance correct modeling, since over or under estimation certain load-type component result too optimistic pessimistic operation limits.
